TRACK DETAILS:
Tom Anderson purchased Sand Hill Ranch back in 1973 when Brentwood was just a quiet farming community best known for its "U-Pick" fruit farms. His son, Phil, was District 36 Black Plate #2 and places to practice and race were closing down all over California. They taught themselves to drive tractors and build tracks, and with the exquisite sand/clay soil mixture were soon running world class events such as the Golden State Nationals. Sand Hill is also home of the Original Hangover Day Marathon. Legendary heroes who have practiced or raced at Sand Hill include: Dick "Bugsy" Mann, Brad Lackey, Bob Hannah, David Bailey, Rodney Smith, Jim Odom, Jeff Ward, Johnny O'Mara, Marty Moates, Alex Jorgensen, Steve Ecklund, Chris Carr, Freddie Merkel, and countless others. The bicycle area opened in 1999 and has a permanent Dual Slalom course, a mountain cross course, car jumps and drop in ramps. Currently in the motorcycle area we have a Grand Prix MotoCross track, a mini-cross track (suitable for 125cc sized bikes), a PeeWee track (for the kids and 50 cc sized bikes), and a dirt oval/TT track.
The Motocross, mini-X and PeeWee tracks are open: Wednesdays noon to 7 pm Sats and Suns 10am to 5 pm. We prep the main MX track each time we are open. Dirt Oval: (Short track and TT) Controlled practice under the lights on the short track and TT, 5-10 pm, every Friday, year-round, weather-permitting. We run three goups: PeeWees, Adult Mini's (125's-150's), and Big Bikes (over 250 cc requires Class C traction tires), for approx 10 minute sessions all evening long. Come check it out. If you don't have Class C tires, come check it out anyway, if you decide it's wonderful,THEN buy the tires! ***THE DIRT OVAL IS ONLY OPEN ON FRIDAY NIGHTS!!!**** Gates open one hour before the tracks. If you are early, please wait by the gate and do not enter the property until you have signed in. (Insurance issues)
ALSO VERY IMPORTANT: There is a 4 x 8 foot sign at the front entrance, listing our RULES. They are for your safety. You are responsible for reading them. If you are seen violating a safety rule, you will be asked to load up and leave, no refund. Also remember: PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR KIDS. DO NOT LEAVE A YOUNGSTER ALONE ON THE MINI-X TRACK WHILE YOU ARE RIDING THE GPMX TRACK!!!!! Note: Sand Hill is private property, so we have no spark arrestor or decibel restrictions.
